Black Dice Record Release Party
The Market Hotel
4/11

Album:Repo

I have never experienced a ringing in my ears like I did when I awoke yesterday morning. Black Dice held their record release party at the Market Hotel on Saturday (4/11), and cacophonous insanity is what transpired. I have narrow minded music selections I believe, as I am not a music or noise critic, just a listener and a supporter. I've seen Black Dice previously at the Central Park Summer Stage in July '08 but that was a completely different experience. Being outside in a large group of people under the hot summer sun isn't the best environment to see a noise band. The other night was the best venue to see the deranged machine of sound barreling at you full speed known as Black Dice. When I first walked into the venue, being the first time i was there, the first thing I noticed was the band walking around fraternizing with the audience, and they didn't stand out. Not that i expected them to have an entourage but they were amongst us, and so down to earth. These guys were there to perform and to move the audience to another world; a world inside the sounds of a diesel engine mixed with the noise of communication between the aliens and humans from "close encounters of the third kind." I closed my eyes throughout the performance, not ignoring the strong constant stage performance, but to be uplifted, to dive into the sound, to pick up the different feelings each noise brought. I kept finding myself grinning for some reason and I couldn't pin point it. Was it that I was really enjoying myself, or was it the fact that I was experiencing something out of body with no exterior force? The album is downloadable off of the itunes store, "Repo."
